AUTOPSY’S 1989 DEBUT OF HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL DEATH METAL ‘SEVERED SURVIVAL’ CELEBRATES 35TH ANNIVERSARY
SET FOR TWO-EDITION RE-RELEASE ON 28 JUNE 2024
Death metal pioneers Autopsy celebrate the 35-year anniversary of their legendary debut album ‘Severed Survival’ this year. To mark the occasion, Peaceville will be re-issuing the album on Limited Edition Red/Black Gore Marble vinyl with two variations available; one featuring the original controversial “Hooks” cover artwork (Kent Mathieu) which was initially banned, and a version containing the replacement “Surgeons” cover (Kev Walker). Both editions include a four-page booklet with a new in-depth interview with the band conducted by Dennis Dread.
“What can you say about Severed Survival? It’s got heavy, it’s got guts, it’s got blood…LOTS of blood, it’s got a band of freaks trying their best to make their mark and those freaks still stand by this slab of slime 100%.”

AUTOPSY RETURN WITH GORE RIDDEN NEW ALBUM
‘ASHES, ORGANS, BLOOD AND CRYPTS’ OUT NOW
Following the blistering ‘Morbidity Triumphant’, AUTOPSY return with their next chapter in the form of ghoulish ‘Ashes, Organs, Blood And Crypts’. A mere year after their previous offering the band are positively chomping at the bit – or more hacking away at the neck to unveil new music for their baying fans.
Hot on the heels of 2022’s universally lauded opus, ‘Morbidity Triumphant’, the US death metal greats now return for a new sermon of sickness, with ‘Ashes, Organs, Blood & Crypts’, featuring brutal bouts of riffery feral attacks, soul crushing doom and all out skull splitting heaviness.
Emerging from their sepulchre comes yet another horrendous piece of art from long time collaborator Wes Benscoter (Bloodbath / Slayer). Inspired by the title, the band let Wes’ imagination run amok, conjuring up yet another horrifying monument to Autopsy’s latest musical offering.
The album was recorded by Scott Evans and Greg Wilkinson at Sharkbite Studios with additional tracking at Earhammer Studios by Greg Wilkinson and was mixed by Greg Wilkinson and mastered by Ken Lee.
‘Ashes, Organs, Blood and Crypts’ will be available for pre-order in the following formats – Limited edition Red LP (Blood) / Yellow LP (Organs – available exclusively from the Peaceville Stores) and Orange LP (Crypts), LP (Ashes), CD and Digital.
One of the longest running death metal acts active today, and an inspiration for whole generations of depraved metal maniacs the world over, Autopsy formed in 1987 and released four albums on Peaceville Records – beginning with the classic debut ‘Severed Survival’ in 1989 – before disbanding in 1995, with members going on to form the equally disturbed Abscess. Autopsy officially returned after a fifteen year hiatus with the 2010 EP, ‘The Tomb Within’, followed closely by their fifth studio album, ‘Macabre Eternal’ in 2011, which set them on a new bloodthirsty trail, with the reinvigorated intent of creating more of the sickest and most twisted & uncompromising music ever to grace a turntable. The band has remained prolific ever since.
Morbidity Triumphant tracklisting:
1. Stab The Brain [03:15]
2. Final Frost [04:09]

MORBIDITY TRIUMPHANT – THE LONG-AWAITED FULL-LENGTH RETURN OF THE US DEATH METAL PIONEERS, AUTOPSY, FOR A NEW BOUT OF SUPREME SICKNESS IS OUT NOW
“The moment has finally arrived for a new full length Autopsy album to slither out into the public and people will have to deal with it. Buckle up, it’s a raw, rough and ugly ride!” Chris Reifert
Since first bursting onto the death metal scene with the now genre classic ‘Severed Survival’ back in 1989 and following up with the equally revered ‘Mental Funeral’ album, the influential US quartet has carved an unwavering legacy over three decades as masters and purveyors of the vile sides of the extreme metal spectrum. And now, Autopsy marks its reinvigorated return, presenting the first new full-length studio opus since 2014’s ‘Tourniquets, Hacksaws and Graves’ with ‘Morbidity Triumphant’; a savage offering of brutal death, showing the US legends still have an unbridled hunger for the sadistic, never reluctant to step beyond the threshold of decency.
‘Morbidity Triumphant’, the band’s eighth album, is truly a dark delight for seasoned and new listeners alike, with a raw organic sound perfectly encapsulating what makes Autopsy so distinguishable among its peers, for what could easily be considered one of its strongest offerings to date.
The driving force of Autopsy as ever is the virtuoso guitar pairing of Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles, effortlessly trading off their schizophrenic leads and switching from all-out death metal madness to groove-laden heavy doom, with unmistakable drum/vocal legend Chris Reifert being master of proceedings, spewing his own infinitely creative maniacal musings. ‘Morbidity Triumphant’ also notably marks the first album to feature new bassist Greg Wilkinson, currently also seen in Static Abyss along with Chris “working with Greg on the Autopsy record was totally different than the Static Abyss one, mostly since Autopsy is a complete band with their own pre-established ways of doing things – we just abducted him into the band and had him roll with our ways, which he took to like a fish to gasoline so much so that he contributed a song musically which fit in perfectly with the rest of the sickening anthems on the album.”
‘Morbidity Triumphant’ was recorded at Opus Studios, with long-associated engineer Adam Munoz at the helm. Mastering was completed by Ken Lee.
The cover artwork appears courtesy of Wes Benscoter (Slayer, Bloodbath), with a new work of twisted and sinister genius. Chris exclaims “Wes delivered another stunner. What a maniac!” he explains “We didn’t give him much to work with as usual. I think, maybe, just a couple of song titles and themes maybe and his imagination did most of the work. The album title came along after the fact. After having our minds blown by Wes’ art we arrived at “Morbidity Triumphant” which seemed to fit the theme of the painting as well as the way we feel about the state of the band in general. We’ve been working hard at our sick craft with zero compromise and it seems we’re still hitting our stride somehow.”
Turn out the lights, crank it up until your speakers puke and see where it takes you. You might be surprised at the thoughts and visions that enter your head. Get the ticket, take the ride and be prepared for your mind to eat itself alive.
Morbidity Triumphant is OUT NOW on the following formats – CD / black vinyl LP / ltd edition violet coloured LP – exclusive to the Peaceville label stores / other colours available in various territories / cassette / digital.

AUTOPSY’S FIRST OFFICIAL LIVE ALBUM FEATURING CLASSIC TRACKS FROM OVER THREE DECADES OF DEPRAVITY, INCLUDING NEW UNRELEASED TRACK
OUT NOW
Lyric video by Matthew Vickerstaff
“Live, loud, raw and ugly! Autopsy lays waste to the stage and assaults the crowd with classic death metal brutality”.
Out now and just in time for Halloween, Autopsy will release their first ever official live album – Live in Chicago.
The show was recorded this year just ahead of lockdown on 7th March at Reggie’s Rock Club, in Chicago, and contains 66 minutes of classics spanning their whole 30+ year career of the death metal legends.
Chris Reifert remembers the show fondly “We feel extremely lucky to have played this show, we got home from the trip and about a week later our home cities were all in lockdown. It was our 4th time playing Reggie’s and it is one of our favourite places. It was really a perfect trip. The flights were easy, we were all in a great mood, we played with killer bands, ate great food, saw old friends of ours and weed had just become legal in Chicago to boot. Plus we love the crowd there. They just want to come down, drink beer and have a kick ass metal time. The whole trip was a 10 out of 10 for us. I’m glad we didn’t know what was coming because that would have definitely dampened the festive atmosphere.”
The release also notably includes the brand new track “Maggots in the Mirror”, giving fans something to chew on while the impending next studio release takes shape. Due to recent & unforeseen global events, this stands as Autopsy’s only gig of 2020, out of what was intended to be a string of several appearances. Luckily the show was professionally recorded, unknowing of what was about to follow.
With mixing carried out by Adam Munoz, notable for his work on Autopsy’s studio albums, Live in Chicago captures Autopsy in all of their ferocious, gory glory, with artwork once again conjured from the masterfully warped mind of Wes Benscoter (Slayer, Nile, Kreator).
US Gods of sickness Autopsy formed in 1987 in San Francisco & was among the early breed of death metal bands to emerge, releasing 4 albums on Peaceville before disbanding in 1995. After a 15-year hiatus, Autopsy officially returned from the grave with the 2010 EP, The Tomb Within. This was followed by the release of the band’s fifth studio album, Macabre Eternal in 2011, spearheading a resurgence of the legends with multiple subsequent albums and EPs.
Live in Chicago will be released on CD, a gatefold double vinyl black LP and digitally
